About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In an engaging Bundesliga clash, Hamburger SV held FC Bayern München to a 2-2 draw at home, a result that might come as a surprise given Bayern's stature and recent form. The match saw Hamburger SV take the lead twice, only for Bayern to claw back on each occasion, showcasing their resilience. The game began with Hamburger SV taking the initiative, and they were rewarded in the 34th minute when Fábio Vieira (GAP -0.6%) found the back of the net, giving the home side a deserved lead. However, Bayern responded swiftly, with Harry Kane (GAP +10.4%) equalizing in the 42nd minute, demonstrating why he remains a pivotal figure for the Bavarians. The second half started with a bang as Luka Vušković doubled Hamburger SV's lead in the 53rd minute. Yet again, Bayern's response was immediate, with substitute Luis Díaz leveling the score just three minutes later. This back-and-forth highlighted the attacking prowess of both teams and kept the fans on the edge of their seats. From a tactical standpoint, Bayern's manager made three changes, introducing Jamal Musiala, Jonathan Tah, and Luis Díaz, which added fresh legs and creativity to their lineup. Hamburger SV also made five substitutions, bringing on Giorgi Gocholeishvili, Immanuel-Johannes Pherai, Robert Glatzel, Rayan Philippe, and Warmed Omari, indicating a strategic rotation to maintain intensity. Key players for Bayern included Manuel Neuer (GAP +9.0%), who made several crucial saves, and Joshua Kimmich (GAP +9.3%), who controlled the midfield with his usual composure. For Hamburger SV, Michael Olise (GAP +7.8%) was instrumental in their attacking plays, providing the necessary spark and creativity. This result leaves Bayern München still in a strong position in the Bundesliga, though they will see this as two points dropped rather than one gained. For Hamburger SV, the draw is a morale booster, showing they can compete with the league's elite. Both teams will look to build on this performance in their upcoming fixtures, with Bayern aiming to tighten their grip on the top spots and Hamburger SV seeking to climb further up the table.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
